#CPU Z RAM SPEED UPGRADE#
It seems there are several JEDEC profiles in common between the Dell and Nemix RAM that should do the job - settings that are in common between the two RAM offerings and achieve 2933 MHz.īottom line is that I'm looking for Dell to recommend a third-party RAM offering that is known to work at full-speed when mixed with Dell memory in the XPS 8940, so I can upgrade from 64 to 128GB RAM without purchasing this memory from Dell directly. I used Windows Task manager Performance tab to see the overall memory speed (2933 vs 2400), and I also use CPU-Z to crawl into details. When I combine the Dell 2x32GB and the Nemix 2x32GB, the system reduces speed to 2400 MHz.įWIW, I couldn't find a source for the specific SK Hynix UDIMM sold by Dell from any third party.

The Nemix RAM runs at 2933 MHz when used on its own (i.e., when I remove the two Dell factory DIMMs, and install just the two Nemix DIMMs). That post added that 732YD is the recommendation from Dell, and Nemix states their RAM is 732YD and also gives specific guidance that it replaces AB120719 from Dell. if the memory tab shows 800 then you are running at 1600. the spd tab just shows what the ram is capable of, not necessarily what speed its running at. please post the memory tab, that's the important one. All specs match Dell's guidance, including all guidance as recently posted by the Admin DELL-Chris M: your CPU runs at 1333, and so is your ram at the moment. I'll focus on just the last RAM I purchased: Nemix RAM SNP732YDC/32G (2 of them. I put Dell memory in paired slots, and third-party memory in paired slots, i.e., one vendor in slots 1+2, the other in slots 3+4 (the black and white tabs on the motherboard help make that clear).

I have gone through 3 pairs of third-party memory DIMMs with no luck. However, the combination of Dell plus third-party RAM drops the RAM speed from 2933 to 2400 MHz each time I tried this. All the third-party RAM has successfully increased the 64GB to 128GB. I have been trying to upgrade to 128GB by adding two 32GB UDIMMs of memory from third-party sources, as the add-on memory from Dell (AB120719) is quite expensive relative to third-party RAM prices (almost triple the price). It runs this memory at 2933 MHz as expected and can be confirmed using Windows task manager performance tab. I bought it with 64GB (2x32GB) of memory. I recently purchased a Dell XPS 8940, and it seems to be a very solid PC.
